Postdoctoral Scholar in Rangeland Ecology and Management

Rank: Postdoctoral Scholar in Rangeland Ecology and Management working on a project that will take leadership in developing habitat effectiveness models for beef cattle grazing forest landscapes. This is a full-time (1.0 FTE) fixed term appointment.  Reappointment is at the discretion of the principle investigator.

Location: Lab and office work will be conducted at EOARC in Union, OR. The project is a cooperative effort between EOARC and the Starkey Ungulate Ecology Team of the Pacific Northwest Research Station, Forest Service. Limited field work may occur on the Starkey Experimental Forest and Range and other National Forest System locations.              

ANNUAL Salary: $45,000 - $55,000

EDUCATION:  Earned PhD in range management, animal science, ecology, natural resources, or related field.

EXPERIENCE/ QUALIFICATONS:
Documented scientific experience (minimum of 1 publication in a peer-reviewed scientific journal)
Experience analyzing landscape data using Geographic Information Systems
Field experience using advance statistical procedures
Experience with programming and developing models
Experience working in rangelands and forests
Supervisory experience desirable
Excellent oral communication skills
Motivated individual with ability to work independently
Preferred qualifications include a demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity.

DUTIES:
Data management, analysis and development of manuscripts summarizing model development and validation using GIS and other statistical packages.
The project will entail development of models that incorporate landscape nutritional parameters and physical aspect (slope, distance to water, etc) that influence animal distribution. Data from the Starkey Experimental Forest and Range will serve as the modeling data set.
Project logistics and potential supervision of a small field crew.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
The expected start date for this position is January 1st , 2013 and the appointment will end on December 31st , 2014.
