Student Activities

The PNW Section has a long history of actively supporting both High School and College students interested in careers in rangeland management. Each year the Section tries to sponsor high school students to attend the International Annual Meeting generally held in February. These students compete in paper presentations and are involved in many informal activities.

The PNW Section of the Society for Range Management awards one (1) $500 scholarships to an outstanding student pursuing careers in natural resource management, range management, or related sciences prior to the PNW Section SRM annual meeting each fall. Students may use the scholarship in any qualifying college. To qualify, the college or university must offer a major or option in Range Management or Range Science, have a Range Plant ID Team, Undergraduate Range Management Exam Team, or Range Management Club recognized by the PNW Section of the SRM. All undergraduates may apply. Selection will be based on scholastic achievement, leadership, and participation in activities, especially those that are range-related. The scholarships are presented at the PNW Section SRM annual meeting each fall. Applications are available from faculty members in range related sciences or directly from Andrea L. Mann (contact information below).

Applications must be completed and submitted with the following: application form, official grade transcript (or photocopy or official grade reports), a list of classes to be taken during the next academic year, a one-page resume, and two letters of reference sent directly to the scholarship committee chairperson. The resume should include the applicant’s background, where he/she is attending school, educational program objectives, career plans, and why the applicant feels he/she should receive the scholarship. Please mail applications and reference letters by April 1, 2013 to:
